Will Cristiano Ronaldo leave Real Madrid?

There is much speculation and rumour surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and where he may be playing next year.It must be remembered that Ronaldo is still contracted to Real Madrid; however, with this latest Champions League elimination will Ronaldo leave the club or stay at the Bernabeu and try to fight on for that title next year?

When looking at whether he will leave, the football world is unable to get away from the constant speculation of him joining his old club Manchester United. This could be a possible move for Ronaldo due to his strong links with Sir Alex Ferguson. It was seen when the two sides clashed in the Champions League that Ronaldo did not wish to celebrate when he scored, while it was said that he visited the Red Devils' changing room after the game to talk to his former team-mates.

Furthermore, with the recent link to PSG, Manchester United have reportedly spoken with Ronaldo’s agent in a bid to see off a potential move to get the 28-year-old back. Therefore, if the rumours are true, the Red Devils with Ferguson leading the fight could see the return of Ronaldo allowing for United to maybe have that attacking force in Europe that they missed this year.

It can be argued that Ronaldo may join another team other than Manchester United such as Chelsea or indeed the new contenders PSG, especially if Jose Mourinho agrees to join either club this summer.

So, does everything point to a departure for Ronaldo? That may not be the case. Ronaldo has been known to love Real Madrid since he was a boy and that was part of the reason he moved to the club from Manchester.

So, regardless of the rumours that he has just denied a contract extension, he could still stay at the club. Furthermore, as a footballer, Ronaldo will want to stay at the club to try and push for the Champions League title next year, which the club has not won since 2002.

Also with the competition of Lionel Messi in La Liga, he may also want to stay at the club to take the crown away from the Barcelona star.

As Messi has beat Ronaldo to the prestigious Ballon d’Or for four consecutive years running, he may wish to beat him in La Liga rather than moving abroad. Conversely it is argued that Ronaldo would be the best in the Premier League and therefore not have the shadow of Messi constantly hanging over him - potentially paving the way to Ballon d’Or success.

Overall it’s hard to judge where Ronaldo will be next year. However, what we do know is that his decision will either shock or surprise as his future remains unclear.
