Petr Cech facing uncertain Chelsea future

Peter Cech
Since joining Chelsea in 2004, Cech has been through quite a roller coaster ride.He won the Premier League twice in succession under Jose Mourinho, then suffered a life threatening injury to his head in 2006 against Reading.

In 2008 he saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League final, but lost to Manchester United in Moscow. Winning the Premier League again in 2009/10, and the Champions League finally in 2012 against Bayern Munich.

Cech has won the Premier League Golden Glove with a record 21 clean sheets in a season, and currently has 139 clean sheets for Chelsea in the Premier League. He has 100 caps for the Czech Republic and has played 421 (and one as a substitute) for Chelsea. Currently with Ross Turnbull and Henrique Hilario under him, he has been the undisputed number one keeper.

With worries over a life threatening injury sustained in 2006, there were fears that Cech wouldn't be able to return to the form he had displayed before.

Cech returned in 2007 against Liverpool wearing a Rugby head guard made especially for him by Canterbury of New Zealand.

Since then he has returned to amazing form, and has captained Chelsea during the absence of John Terry and Frank Lampard.

His recent performances specifically against Manchester United in the FA Cup sixth round have been truly amazing.

In the 2012 Champions League final he saved a penalty from Arjen Robben and helped Chelsea to win 4-3 on penalties. But he has made some silly mistakes, coming out of goal allowing open nets for strikers to capitalise on, and a red card against Wigan for tripping Hugo Rodallega, which could be interpreted both ways.

Other mistakes such as in the 2007 League Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur cost Chelsea the cup after parrying the ball towards Jonathan Woodgate who scored the winning header.

Other games such as the FIFA Club World Cup final against Corinthians, Cech came out of his goal when he didn't need to, allowing Paolo Guerrero to head in the only goal of the game.

With up and coming talents such as Thibaut Courtois returning from loan at Atletico Madrid, it makes you wonder how much longer Cech will get to wear the Number 1 shirt and start as many games as he currently does for Chelsea.

In my mind Cech is still a fantastic keeper, his performances have been outstanding with a few mistakes, which every player makes in their career but with Courtois showing fine form in La Liga Cech could be pushed off the team sheet for the first-time in his Chelsea career.
