Real Madrid plan move for £15m Manchester United target

Julian Draxler
Manchester United have reportedly been joined by Real Madrid in pursuit of Schalke teenager Julian Draxler, with both clubs keen to capture the young midfielder in the summer transfer window.

According to talkSPORT, both clubs are monitoring the situation of Draxler, and Real Madrid are now considering making a formal approach for the £15 million-rated Germany international.

Schalke hope to convince Draxler to commit his future to the club beyond the terms of his current deal, which expires in 2016, although Real Madrid could test the Bundesliga club's resolve to keep the player when the transfer window opens.

Draxler, 19, has scored 11 goals in all competitions for Schalke this season, while he has contributed five assists, and the youngster has the ability to bring an added creative dimension to the respective midfields of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Manchester United are reported to have outlined the acquisition of midfield reinforcements as a summer priority with Paul Scholes seemingly likely to end his Old Trafford career for a second time.

Along with Draxler, Sir Alex Ferguson has also been linked with Benfican's Nemanja Matic - previously of Chelsea - and the Manchester United boss may be tempered to sign a more experienced player than the former to replace Scholes.

United are reported to have already made an initial enquiry as to the potential availability of Matic, 24, at the end of the season, although they could find the valuation of the Serbian prohibitive to any proposed deal.
